NDIS Household Tasks vs Linen Service: Which Budget Pays for Laundry?

Both supports come out of the same part of your plan. The difference is that one buys hours and the other buys clean laundry, and that changes what you get for the same money.

If you have ever looked at an NDIS plan and wondered which line pays for the washing, you are in good company. Laundry can be funded two completely different ways, and the choice between them is one of the more practical decisions in a plan.

Both supports sit in Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life). That is the flexible part of a plan, which is why this decision is usually yours to make rather than something fixed at a planning meeting.

Household tasks: 01_020_0120_1_1

The full name of this support item is House Cleaning and Other Household Activities. It pays a support worker by the hour to do household jobs in your home, vacuuming, dishes, changing the bed, and yes, putting a load of washing on.

Under the 2026–27 NDIS pricing arrangements the national price limit is $60.10 an hour (higher in remote and very remote areas). That is a cap rather than a set fee, so a provider can charge less, but not more.

  • Billed by the hour, with the worker in your home
  • Covers a range of tasks in the same visit, not only laundry
  • Washing is done in your machine, so it is limited by your machine and your drying space
  • Good when you want company, supervision, or help with several tasks at once

Linen service: 01_021_0120_1_1

This is the support item we invoice as NDIS Linen Service – 01_021_0120_1_1. Instead of buying time, it buys a result: your laundry is collected from your door, washed, dried, folded and returned.

Linen service is a quotable support, which means there is no published hourly cap, the provider quotes for the job and you or your plan manager approve it. Our prices are the same ones every other customer pays; there is no NDIS surcharge.

  • Priced per load or per job, not per hour
  • Nobody needs to be in your home, contactless collection is standard
  • Commercial machines handle doonas, blankets and bulky bedding your machine may not
  • Good when the goal is simply clean clothes back, reliably

Household tasks buys a support worker's hours. Linen service buys the washing done and returned.

What the two look like side by side

Take a household doing roughly two loads a week. Here is what each support costs for that week, using the published NDIS price limit for household tasks and our own published prices for linen service.

$120.20

Two hours of household tasks at the 2026–27 price limit of $60.10 an hour

$70

Two loads collected and returned, $30 per load plus $10 pickup and delivery

2 hrs

Support-worker time freed up for other things if the washing goes out

This is not an argument that one is better. Two hours of support-worker time does more than laundry, and for some participants having someone in the home is the point of the support. But if the washing is the only thing those hours are being used for, a linen service does it for less and gives the hours back.

A useful way to decide: if the value is in the person, book household tasks. If the value is in the clean laundry, book a linen service. Many plans run both.

How to get laundry support into a plan

Bring it up as a daily-living need rather than a preference. Planners respond to the practical effect: how long laundry takes, what it costs you in energy, whether bulky bedding is manageable, and what you would do with the time or the support hours instead.

  • Ask your planner, support coordinator or plan manager to look at Core Supports, Assistance with Daily Life
  • For a quotable support like linen service, ask the provider for a written quote, we send one the same day
  • If you are plan-managed, your plan manager approves and pays the invoice and you pay nothing upfront
  • If you are self-managed, keep each invoice and claim it through the myplace portal

The published price limits and support item definitions are on the NDIS pricing arrangements page, which is updated each July. If you want the detail on how the line item appears on an invoice, we wrote that up separately in our guide to line item 01_021_0120_1_1.

How it works with us

We collect across Sydney's Inner West, Canterbury-Bankstown and St George, daily. A minimum order of $45 applies, with tax and the $10 pickup and delivery fee included, and standard turnaround is 24–48 hours. Bedding and dry cleaning take 48–72 hours.

Support coordinators and plan managers can set a participant up in one call. Tell us the suburb and how often collections are needed, and we confirm the arrangement with everyone before the first pickup. Full details are on our NDIS laundry service page.

FAQ

NDIS laundry funding questions

Does the NDIS pay for laundry?

It can. Laundry sits under Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life), and two different support items can cover it: house cleaning and other household activities (01_020_0120_1_1), which pays a support worker by the hour to do the washing with or for you, and linen service (01_021_0120_1_1), which pays for laundry collected, washed and returned to you.

What is the difference between household tasks and a linen service?

Household tasks is time: a support worker comes to your home and the NDIS pays an hourly rate, capped at $60.10 an hour nationally under the 2026–27 pricing arrangements. Linen service is an outcome: your washing goes out, comes back clean and folded, and the provider quotes for the job rather than the hour.

Can I use both supports?

Yes, and many participants do. A linen service handles the washing while support-worker hours go to the tasks that genuinely need someone in the home. Both are claimed from the same Core Supports budget, so it is worth checking the split with your plan manager or support coordinator.

Is linen service price-capped like household tasks?

No. Linen service (01_021_0120_1_1) is a quotable support, so there is no published hourly cap, the provider quotes and you or your plan manager approve it. Our pricing is the same as it is for every other customer, with no NDIS loading.

How do I claim a linen service if I am self-managed?

We send an NDIS-compliant invoice after every service, itemised as NDIS Linen Service – 01_021_0120_1_1, and you claim it through the myplace portal. If you are plan-managed we invoice your plan manager directly and you pay nothing upfront.
